Simulation output file configuration

Hello all,

i have an issue with my storage drive. We are running a lot of simulation with PSIM. Our internal storage cloud is configure to perform continuous back up. The waveform output file (.SMV file) weights a lot. The problem is that our back up system is doing continuos back up of avery .SMV file at any simulation. The backup has been set to prevent data lost in case of failure in our network. The multiple backup are filling up our cloud system. I would like to know if there is a possibility to configure the PSIM with different path for only .SMV file. My intention is to direct only .SMV file in my local PC drive.

Hi @Technix,

Look at page 27 of the PSIM 2026 user's manual you can run simulations in command line using PsimCmd.exe. When running like this, you can easily define the output path to the .smv files:

PsimCmd -i "[input file]" -o "[output file]" -v "VarName1=VarValue1" -v "VarName2=VarValue2"
-t "TotalTime" -s "TimeStep" -g

You can also use Python or Simcenter Compose for this:

I have been trying but for some reason i'm missing the file 'PsimCmd.exe' in my installation folder and in my source forlder. How can i get it? I'm using PSIM2025.1 version.

I'm using PSIM 2026 and it's present at "C:\Altair\Altair_PSIM_2026\PsimCmd.exe" for me. It should be the same on your version. Can you update to the latest version if not?

i confirm i don't have 'PsimCmd.exe' in the installation folder of C partition of my PC. My is a yearly renewable licence. I was given an installation file that i ran and then got it activated via my Altair account. so, i don't think there is a possibilité to perform an update. Could you please tell who i can speak to in order get this file command?

The .exe should be present there. Sometimes, antivirus mistakenly deletes some .exe file. You can try reinstalling the same version and check.

If the issue persists, please raise a support request at Support Center so an expert can look deeper into the issue.

Hello @RSGarciarivas I have finally succeeded un getting le file PsimCmd.exe through window command prompt. I created my simulation folder and also the path on my PC C drive to save the .SMV file. During the simulation, it is sending the .SMV in the correct path but le problem it is still saving a copy in the simulation folrder. Exactly what i wanted to avoid. Is it working for you this way?

Hi @Technix,

Have a look at the example I've put together. It contains a PSIM model, a results file, and a BAT file to run PsimCmd.

As you will see from the BAT file, PSIM simulates the model in batch, which is present in the "Model" directory, and outputs the results to the "Output" directory. The way I'm calling it, no results file is created in the same folder as the model.

Please delete the results file first and then run the BAT file again to check this behavior. Let me know if the output is not the expected one.
