Bonding V2 model

Question

Dear Professor, I am a beginner in using EDEM.I have a few questions regarding the Bonding V2 model.

1.I am trying to set up the Bonding V2 model, but no bonds have been generated. Below are my relevant parameter settings and the simulation model. Could you please help me identify any issues with my setup?The failure to bond may be related to the timing issue described in my second question regarding the Bonding V2 model activation.

2. For the Bonding V2 model, can the settings only be applied before particle generation? If I configure the Bonding V2 model after the particles have already been generated, will the bonds fail to form?

3.Is the Bonding V2 model suitable for studying brittle materials with high hardness?

4.I would like to carry out a secondary development based on the Bonding V2 model. The approach is that the bond strength degrades as the local temperature of the material increases. Is this approach feasible?

Hi,

The input parameters look OK though the material is quite stiff/brittle.  The higher the material stiffness values typically the lower the time-step required.  So it maybe that the bonds are created and failed straight away if the time-step is too high.  Its often a good idea to try creating a small number of particles (e.g. 10) so the simulation runs quickly and you can check time-step stability.

The particles do require a contact radius to be larger than the particle physical radius, can you confirm you have the particle radius option set in the particles tab?

For the bonds, you have to specify the bond creation time before the particles are created.  if you set the factory with the creation time after then this won't be applied.  It's best to make all the changes to the properties, like hte stiffness, also at t=0 before any particles are created.

The model was originally written as the 'bonded particle model for rock' so it is suitable for brittle materials.
