Providing a drive and steering system to articulated tractor

Hello All,
My question could be basic for many but I would need a guidance to start on this.
I have a 35 tonnes tractor model having two-wheels on each side front and rear. It has to take a sharp turn of 90 degrees within its prescribed radius. For steering it articulates from the center. I would like to know, what method I can use it to drive to have traction in all the wheels and to make it turn maintaining at particular speed. From Altair library I have used only tires and roads for now. The wheels vehicle is being assembled from CAD parts. What will be the ideal way of modeling its traction and provide steering?

Hi @Pramod_Patel,

The nature of your vehicle architecture means you will likely need to model most of this manually as this unorthodox layout will not be found in the Assembly Wizard. However, certain systems from Assembly Wizard models can be extracted and applied to your model.

For example, you can create a model from the Assembly Wizard that uses a Four Wheel Drive system and a Longitudinal Engine/Transmission powertrain system. Then you can export those systems as MDL Definitions by selecting the system, then going to File » Export » MDL Definition. In your goal model, you can then go to File » Import » MDL Definition, and modify the systems as needed so they will function as intended.

The Altair Driver Model and Standard Events can be applied to vehicle models of all shapes and sizes, so even if you are building this type of vehicle architecture you can still take advantage of those ease of use features. So for getting your vehicle to eventually drive a prescribed course, make sure to add the Driver Model after you complete the vehicle assembly.

If you are new to MotionView Multibody Dynamics, then this will likely take some effort on your part. I would recommended consuming as much training material as possible before manually creating vehicle models, so make sure to look into the Getting Started with MotionView/MotionSolve eLearning and Vehicle Modeling with MotionSolve eLearning courses.
