EDEM to Simsolid cause localized excessively high stresses.

I am currently importing boundary force data from EDEM into Simsolid for analysis and have noticed localized excessively high von stresses. However, no issues such as local particle penetration were observed. At the same time, when importing different time steps, the location of these localized excessively high stresses changes.

Hi @czr,

Looks like the adaptation of your model is not converged. You can try to increase the number of adaptive passes to see a better result.

Thank you for your reply. Following the helpful suggestions you provided, I attempted to increase the number of iteration steps, but the results did not show significant improvement.

Additionally, under the same constraints and connections, the model currently produces reasonable results when subjected to self-weight load and under another load case involving EDEM particle loading.

Hi CZR,

this kind of behavior is expected in EDEM due to particle impacting the geometry with high velocity.

Please check in EDEM what the particle velocity before particle the geometry is and make sure time step is 20% or lower and also check the mass of the particle as well.

If mass is large and velocity is high there is a possibility that geometry can experience the large stress.

If you feel this is something insignificant behavior please ignore the result that node/element and evaluate other location.

I checked the particle motion and found that they are all stationary. Regarding your mention of ignoring nodes, how exactly should I proceed? Does it mean suppressing that component?

Hi CZR,

Ignoring the stress on element meaning assume that is not a critical location and check for the next highest stress region.

To do this you have to control stress legend value such as 2.0091e+04 to 1000 and check the different regions experiencing the stress

Yes, correct the contact issue bonding/Tie is not properly established.

Please check the contact tolerance if it is less increase and run the simulation and check it.

After applying the maximum threshold as advised, all outputs are within expected ranges, with the exception of the previously identified erroneous locations.
