there used to be an option in old version to pick a point as reference for the animation. cannot find in 2025.

Animations can be centered on a node, component, or system using the Tracking System tool.
In version 2026, it can be found in the Create Ribbon:
In version 2025.1 and earlier, it can be found in the Create Ribbon, but in the drop down list:
If there is ever a Tool you can't locate, you can always search for the tool in the Search bar, located in the top right of the window:
