I’ve been working with SimSolid and wanted to share a few thoughts and questions regarding unit system handling and solution settings.
While SimSolid allows configuration files for solution settings (like adaptation levels, refinement, etc.), I’m wondering if it's possible to extend this to unit system configuration as well. Currently, switching between unit systems feels a bit tricky and manual — especially when you have to change both input and output units for various parameters individually.
For example, I prefer working in N-mm, but in the Virtual Connector → Bushing settings, the stiffness units show up as N-m. Is this a GUI glitch or is there a reason behind this inconsistency?
Also, I’m curious about how SimSolid interprets acceleration due to gravity when using custom unit systems. If I set the unit system to mm/sec² and apply a gravity load of 1G, how does SimSolid internally convert or interpret that value? Is there a default G value it uses, or does it depend on the unit system?
Would love to hear if others have faced similar issues or found workarounds. And if there's any way to define unit preferences globally (maybe via config file or environment variable), that would be a huge help.
Thanks in advance!
