In this white paper, a case study is presented in which a small military unit that has been deployed close to enemy forces needs to communicate beyond line of sight to call in reinforcements. To enhance resilience against jamming, the forward unit has access not only to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites but also to a terrestrial link with repeaters. The paper describes how dedicated antennas have been designed to ensure low probability of detection by hostile forces, and how propagation and communication simulations ensure functioning communication links with modest transmit power.
