Is there an efficient way to simulate a 1.5m aluminum (200um rms) reflector at sub-THz frequencies?

Description: Hi there, the issue I'm having is that I've been using the LE-PO solver, but it doesn't work for lossy materials such as aluminum surfaces. I'm specifically trying to obtain a model that accounts for the surface material and surface roughness (200um for example) seen when using a horn-fed dish (single reflector) antenna with 220-240 GHz frequencies. I've been able to do this using PEC, but I've been struggling to figure out how to make a simulation that includes the actual surface material. Thanks!

Hello Rachel,

As you said, Feko's LE-PO cannot consider finite conductivity materials. (Only PEC is possible.)

To include the finite conductivity and the additional surface roughness, you need to use a full wave solver like MoM/MLFMM/FEM.

Have you heard about "Characterized Surface medium" supported by Feko as explained in the pictures below?

Please closely look at the 5 steps in the 2nd picture showing how to apply the characterized surface medium for your simulation.

1. PBC simulation (MoM) including the finite conductivity + surface roughness
2. Save .tr file for the characterized surface medium definition
3. Apply the .tr file for your final reflector simulation (RL-GO)

You can get some Feko model/information from H.5 Characterised Surfaces for FSS in the Feko example guide.

Please also note that

1. Roughness is specified as a value in meters of the RMS roughness of the surface.
2. Acceptable values are limited to between 50nm and 100um in Feko.
