the coupling of Fluent and EDEM

Hi Everyone,

I am researching the coupling of Fluent and EDEM. Since the particles in EDEM are sphero-cylinders, GPU computing must be used. However, the GPU version of Fluent does not support multiphase flow, so Fluent is computed using the CPU. Will using different processors for these two software affect the data exchange between Fluent and EDEM?

Hi Bai,

There should be no limitations on using sphero-cylinders or GPU. When running the coupling if you run on EDEM GPU, then the simulation is run on GPU but the data is still transferred via CPU, so there is no need for both programs to run on GPU. EDEM will wait for Fluent to complete it's iterations and the data is passed back via the CPU and then EDEM will continue on the GPU run.

I'm unsure on why you would see the above error, I would confirm if the simulation runs OK EDEM only. Also if its a simulation that has been converted from an old file it can sometimes cause problems, you could try re-creating the EDEM simulation to see if it resolves the problem.
