I'm currently exploring the use of architectural laser scanning for renovation and restoration projects and wanted to get insights from professionals who have experience with this technology.

A few questions I have in mind:

• How accurate is 3D laser scanning when capturing complex architectural details?
• What software tools (preferably Altair-based) are best suited for processing and using the point cloud data in architectural workflows?
• How does laser scanning integrate with BIM or CAD systems for architectural design or clash detection?
• Are there any key limitations or common challenges to be aware of during on-site scanning?

I’m particularly interested in real-world examples or case studies where laser scanning improved project outcomes in terms of time, cost, or design quality.

We do have tools in the Altair Marketplace that handle point cloud data, but they have not traditionally been used for your applications. For example, Inspire Implicit can work with point cloud data within the implicit modeling environment to creat ea mapping of the model.

Point Clouds in Implicit Modeling

Hyperworks also has an option to use Point Cloud Data, but you can see that the perspective of this data is different than what you may be intending to use the software for architectural scans:
