[TCL] Create 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 WITH 𝐈𝐃𝐬

Hello.

TCL Question…I don't know, for the life of me, find a pretty straight forward way of creating 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 specifying 𝐈𝐃, like with an 𝐈𝐃= type of argument. TCL information is so elusive, and Altair's documentation very elusive with some of these straight forward, rudimentary, bare-bones, fundamental types of questions. I have a need to create 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 and nodes (nodes, I finally fished it out after a while of searching and trial and errors) CONTROLLED BY POINT NUMBERS (𝐈𝐃s). Being able to 𝐈𝐃 as one creates the 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 IS A HARD requirement, and would appreciate some insider's (developer) level information.Thank you.

I tried something like:*createentity points id=5000 x=317.2500… (or 'point') which seems to be the right type of format for most any entity datanames and types… but it dun vork!and that incompetent *createpoint doesn't do IDs… but why? arrrrgh.I thought of following up with a 'lastentityID' type of a call, renumbering, etc. But Why!?

I'm pretty sure you already know the code, but for the sake of others that might have the same question>

#set coordinates and create a temp node
set coord {19123.9 -2234.81 -1360.67}
*createentity nodes coordinates=$coord

#select the last node created and renumber to some number



set new_node_ID 1000000
*createmark nodes 1 -1

*renumbersolverid nodes 1 ${new_node_ID} 1 1000 0 0 0 0
*clearmark nodes 1

it should be the exact same structure.

for the sake of process, what i usually do is: do the intended operation manually once or twice..go to the command file (edit»command File), grab the major commands and adjust them enhancing them and making them more general wether with TCL commands or some other APIs to make it more general.

set new_point_id 10000

% *createpoint 12 23 34

% *createmark points 1 -1

% *renumbersolverid points 1 $new_point_id 1 1000 0 0 0 0

i'll let others comment as well, but indeed, your workaround would do the job: create a point, retrieve the latest ID, and renumber…

You know, if some developer/documenter who writes 'examples' for the TCL commands did a little bit of thinking (I know, I'm asking a lot from some people, but…), one could create examples that are actually representative and encompassing, such that fishing out one little minnow out of the Great Lakes could be just a little bit easier. I'm a 30+ years' aerospace industry veteran (structures & dynamics) and a bit of a 'com' type of person (think: developer of Windows applications since the late 1980s even before MFC was around), so I say this with some perspective. A little customer-oriented mindset when making products, including manuals, which are products, couldn't hurt either. And just to be clear, I'm talking about everyone in the workforce here, not singling out anyone in particular. Times have changed. Need some help bettering manuals, developing new functions and making Altair even greater? contact me on JOB-BIZ-LINK (literally).

Meanwhile I really believe this is the best answer yet and I'll just leave it at that. I'll mark it 'Accepted' in about 3 weeks after other scientists have some fun poking at this question. Who knows, right?🤔

Can you spell out the set of commands applicable to the 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 counterpart. Tried something (a lot) and TCL didn't like it. Thanks.
