Models with more detail often have some form of copyright. You could look for a ship model on grabcad.com. Hover the cursor over Community, then select Library.

Then, enter a search term and click the magnifying-glass symbol:

You will get a few dozen results. Look for an interesting-enough ship that can be downloaded in a format that Feko can import, e.g., STEP, Parasolid, ACIS. I don't think Feko can import Solidworks.

Warning: many models on GrabCAD need significant repair before you get a good mesh. Download several and see what works best.

Could you please let me know if there are any ship models that have already been repaired and can be used directly in FEKO simulations? I haven’t yet learned how to repair models using HyperMesh. Thank you!

Hi @bncc_1634102064 ,

I could try meshing a model of your choice with SimLab or HyperMesh, if it is possible in a relatively short time. If you have a model, you are welcome to attach it here so that I can take a look at it.

Of course, it would be important to know the desired frequency.

Please also bear in mind that large and complex (= detailed) CAD data is very time-consuming to simulate. So you will probably need a lot of memory and computing time.

This is my ship model file. The .CFX file is the result of importing the .STL file into FEKO. However, it can’t be solved directly in FEKO because the model hasn’t been cleaned. Could you help me clean up the mesh—or simplify and remove some structures—so it can be solved in FEKO? A mesh size of either 1 m or 0.5 m would be fine. Thank you! I had a look, but there is not much that I can do with the STL format (could be my ignorance). The STL format represents a mesh, unfortunately, not a geometry. When you start with a geometry format like Parasolid or STEP, then it's possible to clean it up before meshing.

However, I found a way to use the mesh. At first, the solver didn't even seem to see the mesh.

Right-click > Use model mesh changed this.

Then, the solver complained about the mesh. However, I could bypass that by
right-clicking on the zero and choosing Properties,

followed by a change in the solution method to RL-GO:

The solver seems to accept it now. Still, starting with a geometry (Parasolid or STEP) gives you more options.

An additional note from my side: CAD cleaning as well as mesh cleaning can of course be done in Feko, but for more complex cases there are specialized tools such as Altair's HyperMesh or Simlab.
