This causes me to be unable to use the functions related to .bond in edempy.
I'm using EDEM 2023.1.
Does anyone know why this is the case?
Hi,
Bond Data is stored as Custom Contacts, if you go to the H5 file > Contacts > Custom Properties you should see a list of properties on which the bond information is stored.
The properties will only be shown as their index (0-5). I believe they are in order, bond status, bond normal force, bond tangential force, bond normal torque, bond tangential torque and the last property is a random number generated to be used if a bond stiffness distribution is used. However we don't have that order documented so I would recommend running a sanity check to confirm.
Depending on version you are using you may see some references to 'Bonds' specifically in the file structure, this is because the old version of the bonded model (bonding v1) stored information differently, it didn't use Custom Contacts rather it used specific bond elements, however this was discontinued as 'Bonds' were not compatible with GPU and Custom Contacts can be run on GPU.
