Issue with K&C Steering Analysis – Unable to Get Results Without Explicit Motion in MotionView 2024.

Hello Altair Team,

I am currently working on a Kinematics & Compliance (K&C) Steering Analysis in MotionView 2024.1. I have configured the K&C setup properly and selected the Steering test. However, I am facing the following issue:

  • When I run the analysis without defining any explicit Motion entity (expecting the K&C solver to apply the steering input internally), the results are either blank or not generated.
  • To troubleshoot, I tried applying a Motion entity directly to the steering wheel joint. But when I set the motion as user-defined, it shows Error Evaluating in the User expr field, and the simulation doesn't proceed.

My key questions:

  1. Is it mandatory to define a Motion entity manually while performing a Steering K&C test, or does the K&C module apply the steering input automatically?
  2. Why am I not getting any results when no Motion is applied—shouldn’t the K&C setup handle the steering input?
  3. If defining Motion manually is necessary, what is the correct way to input the motion without triggering the ‘Error Evaluating’ message?
  4. Ultimately, how can I correctly obtain key outputs like Ackerman error, steering angles, KPI, scrub radius, anti-lift, and anti-dive without this motion input issue?

Software details:

  • Software: MotionView 2024.1
  • Test: K&C Steering
  • Issue: Results not generated without motion; error in User expr when Motion is applied.

I request your guidance on the correct procedure to resolve this issue.

Thank you!

    Hi @Harshvardhan2308,

I'm sorry you are having trouble with defining your KnC event. All entities required for the KnC event are created automatically. If the event is not initializing properly, then that more than likely speaks to errors in your vehicle model.

Please see below for a complete example of the workflow:

It should be noted that the KnC event looks for attachment entities automatically based on a common naming structure. Therefore, if you changed the names of entities from a standard assembly, then the event selectors may show Unresolved instead of the names show below:

Please ensure there are no unresolved entities, such as the Steering Joint, where the KnC steering motion is automatically applied.

    Hope this helps!
