Hi, Need clarification in the dispalcement measurements in random vibration. Which one to consider RMS disp or PSD displacement?
Units are in mm, PSD (g2/Hz) inputs.
I want to check the displacements in random vibration. But the displacement are starting from some random number not from zero (blue color contour), how to check the actual displacements in random vibration? Checked for magnitude and individual directional displacements, also tried derived results.

Hello,
- - If you're seeking an overall measure of displacement (i.e., the total "effect" across all frequencies), RMS displacement is the more suitable choice. It takes into account the contribution of all frequencies to the displacement and provides a single scalar value that represents the system's overall response.
- - If you're interested in understanding the displacement's behavior across different frequencies and want to identify specific frequency bands or resonant frequencies, then you should consider the PSD displacement. It gives you a spectral representation of how the displacement varies with frequency, which is crucial for more detailed analysis.
