EDEM-Fluent coupling problem.

Hi Everyone,

Recently, I have been working on the coupling of Fluent and EDEM. Due to the large size of the Fluent flow field simulation mesh file (.mesh, close to 30MB), when importing it as a geometry into the EDEM software, EDEM experiences severe lag. If I instead import the geometry without the mesh as a STEP file into EDEM, will it significantly affect the results of the Fluent and EDEM coupled simulation?

Best regards,

Bai

    Hi Bai,

It shouldn't influence the results so long as the shape of the geometry is the same. EDEM only uses the Fluent mesh file to convert this to a surface geometry mesh. You don't actually need the same geometry in EDEM and the CFD solution but it's best to have the same boundary type and positions for particles and fluids.
