Particle Size Distribution Settings

Hello,

"So, I am trying to generate a powder bed that replicates a powder with the following PSD: the particle sizes D₁₀, D₅₀, and D₉₀ are 24, 48, and 72 µm, respectively. In Altair EDEM, I used the following settings:

The particles are spherical, and I used D₅₀ for their radius.

For some reason, I am not getting the desired powder bed PSD. Am I using the wrong Mean and Standard Deviation settings? I used online equations and help from ChatGPT, but the results are still off.

Would any of you know the correct Mean and Standard Deviation values for the specified D₁₀, D₅₀, and D₉₀ values? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi, in EDEM the mean, stdev, min and max inputs to the size distribution are all a ratio of the particle radius (or volume if selected).

So your mean should give a mean of 1x particle radius. Same for sttandard deviation.

Also for the min and max these are ratios, so your minimum size is set to 0.038 x 24 microns and max is set to 36*24 microns. So if you wanted your max to be 72micron diameter you can set the max value to 1.5.
