Soils starter pack

Hi all,
I was wondering if there is any detailed information available about the materials used in the Soils Starter Pack for Altair EDEM. The information available online is only very basic and only gives a description of the 8 materials. Are there more details available about the specific materials used to generate the materials in the Soils Starter Pack?
Kind regards,
Pim

Hi Pim,
The soils starter pack values are very generic, they are not based on any particular material but aimed ag providing a soil-like material without calibration. Mostly as a guide to which physics model to use for each material type.

Hi @PimK,
For more on the Soil Starter Pack, please refer to the following link from the Help Documentation:
file:///C:/Program%20Files/Altair/2024.1/EDEM/help/topics/creator_tree_bulk_material/the_soils_starter_pack_c.htm?hl=soils%2Cstarter%2Cpack
If you need additional context, can you specify what you need precisely?
Hope this helps!

Hi,
I already found that page, but I am more interested in the material itself, which is used for the generation of the materials in the Soils Starter pack. For example, the non-compressible dry material, is it based on gravel or on sand? How are the parameters of these soils estimated? Is there any information available about the verification of the parameters for these soils. Where are the values based on?
Kind regards,
Pim

Hi Stephen,
If I look into this table, it looks like the materials compressible dry and very compressible dry are exactly the same, because they use the same values. This is also the case for compressible very sticky and very compressible very sticky materials.
So, what is exactly the difference between compressible and very compressible materials?
Kind regards,
Pim

Hi Pim,
Both models use the Hysteretic spring Contact Model, the Hysteretic settings are not referenced in the documentation but the models use a different value of the Yield Strength.Regards
