No Penetration
I am attempting to model a part which is bolted to a skin (which is assumed rigid), for a static analysis in OptiStruct.
I therefore believe I need to use the Interfaces tool to set up a No Penetration contact condition.
I have modelled my skin as a separate component and set up my contact surfaces between my two component. I have then applied BC’s of 0DOF to the skin.
However, whatever settings I choose within my Interfaces group, I cannot get the parts to behave representatively. While the skin stays “rigid” the other part either penetrates through the skin or does not move at all.
I’m expecting the part to be touching the skin around the the bolt holes but hog between them as it’s under a compressive loading.
I am using 2D shell elements as I am modelling composite part.
I have been able to do similar techniques in Solidworks Simulation however I am having great difficulty applying that to Hyperworks.
Please can somebody help explain where I am going wrong?! Many thanks

Linear static cannot capture contact, you need a nonlinear analysis
