CPU performance

Hello,

I have version 14 and when I run a simulation I see that only 50% of my CPU performance is utilised. I have 32 core processor and I use all of them and when it reaches 50% it is making a huge noise in the CPU. Usually this should not be the case, it has to go above 90% performance. I also attached a screen shot please look to that.

Tell us how you run your simulation? CLI? GUI? parameters?

Also, looks like a larger model relatively,

You can use run options, like -ncpu in OptiStruct to choose the number of cores to be utilised for the solution etc.

see help for all the run options for your solver,

    Hi Rahul & DAI,

thank you for the reply. I already used the commands like -nproc 32 , -i64slv. It didnt help me.

    Hi,

can you also please tell me how does a hexahedral element interpolates the value. Does it interpolate at the center of the element?. Because I see the change in the result when I increase the number of layers in the thickness direction. Secondly, can you please tell me what is the typical aspect ratio that can be used for good results. I know that best is 1, but what is the max allowable aspect ratio?

    Regards,

    Punith Guptha

You can refer to the free ebook, practical aspects of finite element simulation, download it from altairuniversity.com

    Hi Rahul,

thank you for the reply. I already have that ebook. I could not find any details about where exactly a hexahedral element interpolates the value? Is it at the center?. Please let me know the answer.

    Thank you

    Hi,

For stresses Optistruct gives Element stresses for shell and solid elements are output at the element center only.See attached screenshot.
