1. Install Altair SLC for Linux on the Linux server and apply your Altair SLC server license. For example, you may install Altair SLC for Linux into /opt/altair/slc/2024.
2. Install Altair Analytics Workbench for Windows on the PC. When you get to the optional components step, you can opt not to include the Local Server. Note that in this configuration, you don’t need to apply a license to the Workbench.
3. In the Workbench user interface there are subwindows “Link Explorer” and “Altair SLC Server Explorer”. Use “Mouse Button 3” drop down menu in the “Link Explorer” subwindow to select “New Host Connection…”
4. Click on “New SSH Connection” and press “Next”.
5. Enter the hostname of the Linux server machine. This will also become the “connection name” but if you want you can change that to something more readable e.g. “Development Server”. Also enter your Linux login user name. Press Finish.
6. You will be prompted for your Linux password as the connection link is opened.
7. Now that the new link is listed in the Link Explorer subwindow, use Mouse Button 3 once again (on the name of the new link) and choose “New Altair SLC Server…”
8. Enter the Base Altair SLC install directory name for the Linux machine e.g. /opt/altair/slc/2024.
9. Press Finish. The server should start right away. You can now submit sas language code to the remote server via the “Run” option on the Workbench toolbar.
