How does Workflow securely store password parameters?

When creating parameters in Workflow, one type of parameter is the Password parameter:

Password values are stored using Eclipse's "Secure Storage" mechanism. The encryption algorithm and mechanisms used are user-configurable through the Workbench preferences under General - Security - Secure Storage. By default it integrates with Windows to associate encrypted entries with your Windows login.
