Modelling fine particulate solids such as powders and soils with the classical micro-mechanical formulation of the Discrete Element Method (DEM) is challenging due to the large number of particles involved. In this webinar, we will introduce the meso-scopic modelling approach which can capture the complex behavior of fine particulate solids, while utilizing a numerical particle size of an intermediate scale between the physical particle scale and the scale of the system of interest.

A meso-scopic contact model will be introduced and examples of experimentally validated results from bench scale physical tests will be given along with examples of EDEM models for large scale systems.

Contents

  • Meso-scopic modelling of particulate solids
  • EEPA contact model overview
  • Validation examples
  • Applications: hopper discharge, wet mixing, dosing
