This webinar presents the EDEM modelling of a triaxial test on railway ballast, focusing on methods for achieving excellent numerical predictions of the experimentally measured stress-strain response with the multi-sphere approach.

The bonded-particle method for modelling the membrane boundary condition of the physical test will be also be discussed and its effect on the imposed stress-state in the model will be evaluated using coarse-grained stress calculations generated with the EDEMpy library of post-processing functions.

Contents:

  • Ballasted tracks - challenges and opportunities for DEM modelling
  • Modelling angular ballast with multispheres
  • Modelling triaxial tests in EDEM
  • Experimental validation of the modelling approach
  • Internal stress state in the triaxial test for railway ballast

Webinar presented live in May 2020.
