Meta-particle for intra-particle coating variation detection

I'm simulating the coating process of a spherical particle and one of my objectives is to measure and verify the intra-particle coating distribution using EDEM.
I'm wondering whether it's possible to get the coating variation among a particle by creating a Meta-particle instead of a single particle and then implementing the Spray-coating API.
How the coating-code will calculate the forces and contact model for the created Meta-particles, is it as a single element or calculate for each sphere in the meta-particle shape?
