API for spray-coating-model of multi-sphere bulk material

Hi All

Is there any API for the spray-coating model that can be implemented for multi-sphere particles able to measure the contacts between the droplet and the surface of each individual sphere in the multi-sphere shape?

I have implemented the Spray-coating model for multi-sphere particles (glued shape) but after gluing the spheres it is calculated by EDEM as one unit (element) so the variation on the glued-sphere surface is not captured by the code!

Please would you advise on how to solve this or how to upgrade the available API to capture the mass variation on the single glued shape?

Hi Salma,

The intra-spray coating for polyhedral particles is work in progress with it been targeted for the next EDEM release.

If using multi-sphere particles my approach would be to create some Custom Properties for the particle. If you had a 3-sphere particle you could create 3 custom properties. In the API you know the orientation of the particle and the position of the contact (From the spray), from this you should be able to determine which of the spheres was contacted or which area/segment of the multi-sphere particle was contacted and then update the custom property element to represent this. For post-processing this data would only be shown per particle not per sphere but as a method of recording the information this should be possible.

As long as it wouldn't be possible to show the variation in terms of mass or volume within the contacted segment (from the spray) in the analyst, Is this method interpret the concept of intra-particle coating variation as a function of the orientation of each particle in the spray zone (or the appearance frequency of a specific direction that facing the spray nozzle)? if it is like that please would you help with how to use the orientation data to predict the intra-particle variation ?
