Can I compute in Flux the losses in stranded type conductors?

Yes, you can.
The losses in the stranded type conductors due to skin effects and to the proximity effect can be difficult to model because of the big number of elementary wires composing the conductors. In order to be able to quantify these losses in an accurate manner with a reasonable computation time and memory resources, a homogenization technique has been implemented in the Flux (since v12) through a new type of region called Coil conductor with losses.
In order to compute the losses in a stranded conductor you have to follow the steps below:
1 | Create Coil conductor region with losses |

2 | Select the component and the material in the tab General |
3 | Define the section of the turns in the tab Strand definition |
4 | Assign this region to the geometric entity representing the coil |
5 | Solve the project and post process the results |
