User-Defined Torsion Spring with Physical Contact

In some designs it may be necessary to represent a torsion spring that is not constrained to a fixed axis of rotation. Instead, the spring's axis may be allowed to "float". With these types of springs, the spring ends are hooked and attached to the parts, rather than the spring's center being constrained to a pin (fixed axis).

The following example shows how the torsion spring representation discussed here can be represented in Inspire Motion as a Torsion Spring combined with physical spring geometry.

The following example models are attached:
1. Torsion spring model that can be placed into an assembly and sized accordingly. This model has two Actuators simply for "squeezing" the spring to see how it works. These Actuators can be removed after "Importing" it into an assembly.
2. Example model to demonstrate the use of the spring in a simple application
