Design Studio for Genesis® makes it easy to organize your model by letting you create collections of groups/properties called assemblies. Assemblies are non-exclusive – that is, groups may be included in more than one assembly. There are a number of built-in assemblies, such as all PSHELL or all PSOLID or all sizing-designed groups. Design Studio makes it easy to show only the groups in a particular assembly. In the Viewport toolbar, the “Show Assembly” button will pop up a list of assemblies, and the if one is chosen, then only the member groups of that assembly will be shown, while all the rest will be hidden.
You can make your own assemblies using the “Manage Assemblies” button on the Display tab.
Assemblies come in two types: Fixed Assemblies or Smart Assemblies.
To make a fixed assembly, you simply select a set of groups to be the members. A smart assembly consists of a set of rules that are evaluated to determine the group membership. These rules are re-evaluated whenever the assembly is used, so as you update your model, smart assembly membership can change. A smart assembly rule can put a test on one of: group visibility, property type, group’s material type, group name, group’s material name, property ID, group’s material ID, or thickness for PSHELL/PCOMP properties.
In addition to being used for model display, assemblies can be used to filter any group list. Simply use the token assembly: followed by text to match an assembly name, and the group list will show only the members of that assembly.
Please give assemblies a try. We think you will find that using assemblies can make complicated models much easier to work with.
