EDEM Online Training 2024
Altair EDEM offers a series of instructor-led online courses to help you quickly learn the basics of the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and applications of Altair EDEM. There are 2 training sessions covering a broad range of topics. Each session last approximately 2 hours including a Q&A section with our EDEM expert. Click the links below to register for the next upcoming sessions starting on the 18th November 2024:

Session 01 – EDEM Introduction:
This session covers an introduction to the Discrete Element Method, EDEM workflow, and how to set up an EDEM simulation. We’ll introduce you to The EDEM Simulator, main EDEM Contact Models and Calibration Methodology. We'll cover how to create particles, and explain when to use the 3 different EDEM particle shapes.
During this section we'll covered the EDEM - Prerequisite eLearning course
Session 02 – EDEM Analyst:
In this training session, we will build on the EDEM Introduction session 01, and explore the EDEM simulation workflow and the post-processing features of EDEM. You will learn how to run a simulation, visualize the granular material behavior, and extract relevant metrics and data for analysis. You will also learn how to create dynamic videos of your simulation.
During this session we’ll cover several EDEM applications and explain how the EDEM post-processing tools were used for the analysis. The image below shows an example of coloring different layers for visualization purposes.

Are these training sessions demonstrational or interactive? We have 2 staff members participating on the same dates, but only enough credits to support 1 user at a time on EDEM.

Hi Chris,
The first day is more interactive, and on the second day, we focus on post-processing and do an EDEM demo. However, the EDEM tutorial can be completed after the first day of training (if the license is shared between two people). Below is a summary of the EDEM training:
EDEM Introduction – Day 1
This training session covers an introduction to DEM, how to set up an EDEM model, and understand the EDEM Workflow. You will also learn best practice to create Factories, base EDEM Contact Models available, and the importance of calibrating your material model.
EDEM Introduction – Day 2:
This training session is a continuation of the EDEM introduction day 1, where we’ll explore the post-processing features of EDEM. You will also have a chance to practice an EDEM tutorial during the live EDEM Demo.Regards,
Cesar
