Can Monarch COM Automation be used with Data Prep Studio

Hello All:

I am a long time user of Monarch (currently running ver 2022.1.1), using COM automation in stand alone pc environments.  I am starting to utilize Data Prep Studio and love the powerful data analytic functionality that DPS addes to Monarch Classic.  Since we are not using Monarch Server, I would like to know:

1. Can DPS workspaces can be executed using Monarch COM automation, and relatedly,
2. Can COM automation be utilized to build "Excel VBA / COM / DPS" solutions in the stand alone pc environments

If the above is possible, where might if find documentation or other learning materials for the same.

Hi Al, Thanks for using and enjoying Monarch in both of its forms!

For version 2021 (aka v17), DPS Workspaces can indeed be executed using command line automation. The documentation for this can be found in the Altair Monarch 2021 Command Line User Guide, which is located with all the other product documentation right here on the Community at this location: https://community.altair.com/community?id=altair_product_documentation

The user guide itself is at this URL: https://help.altair.com/2021.1/monarch/commandline_guide/Altair_Monarch_Command_Line_User_Guide.pdf

The entire PDF is only 13 pages (as opposed to the 2020 Command Line User Guide which was 9 pages), with pages 10-13 containing the information for the Data Prep Studio Command Line Interface.

I expect you'll be able to find everything you need there.

As far as I know com automation is only available for Monarch Classic.

Hi Al,

I believe he was thinking of DPS command line.  There is no Com Automation for the Monarch DPS.

Hi Al,

Command Line Automation is available with the latest version of Data Prep Studio. I believe additional licensing/unit draw is required to enable this feature.

COM object automation is not available.

Just checking in to see if anyone has developed an automated DPS solution using the Command Line Automation facility.  I am starting to get many requirments which will leverage the enhanced data analytics capabilitied of DPS, but the solution needs to have a UI where the users are insolated from much of the interaction with DPS.  For example, I want to build an Excel front end where the user can interact with menus developed in VBA which will facilitate the command line statements which calls DPS in the background.  Essentially, I want to simulate the COM automation facility of Monarch Classic.

Hopefully, I am clear, but would like to start some dialouge around this topic for deeper insight to how others are automating their DPS experience.

I don't have an example but you should be able to figure this out by reading the command line parameter help.
