Connecting different sized hex meshes?

Hi community,

I am quite new to Hypermesh so I would like to ask you to help me.

As you can see in the first picture, I'm meshing a screw and am struggeling with the thread, which wraps around the screw like a helix.

I split the thread into two different solids (the helix & the inner body) and hex-meshed them both individually. Since there is a "gap" between the elements and the nodes of the two meshes don't match, I would like to create a contact between the two.

How could it be done or is there even a better option?

Thanks and greetings!

Are you using OptiStruct as the solver?  If you use freeze/tied contact it should work fine.

Right now I'm using OptiStruct, later on the Solver will be Abaqus.

But the Hypermesh 2020 release notes say that the freeze contact should also work on there, so thank you for your help!
