Error Message while exporting to .grf

Hey folks,

there are two major 'irregularities' when saving and exporting my current model:

Firstly: I cannot just 'save' the model, I have to 'save as' the .hm-file, which is kind of strange to me.
Secondly: While exporting to .grf/.hx an error message in the lower left command line shows up: 'No such file or directory'

When I import the CAD data (either from a .stp or a .igs ) my model consists of two components (the two parts of the extrusion die). When I delete those components the first mentioned problem ('save as'...) occurs. Otherwise I cannot let these components untouched because their designation is imcompatible with HX's spelling requirements.

The same happens to model files that just worked under HW 11.0.

Does anyone know or has encountered this situation before in HW 12.0 espacially HyperXtrude 12.0?

Regards,
Felix

    Felix,

Both the below options should work to save your changes to the .hm database, what happens when you try the second option? no changes are saved?

    1. Click on the File menu and select Save as. Select the suitable location in the pop-up window.
    Or
    2. Click File > Save to save the current changes to the HM model file.

Are you following the below procedure to export the .grf/.hx data files?

    1. Click Export/Launch Solver button in the HyperXtrude Utility Menu.
    2. Type a directory name in which you want to store the data files. You can also click the file_icon_2 button to browse for a directory. Type a name for the file and click Save.
    3. Select the model type in the Model type field: three-dimensional, axisymmetric, or two-dimensional.
    4. Choose whether to renumber all entities in the Renumber all entities field.
    5. Select which entities to export in the Export entities field: all, displayed, or select. The Select option enables you to create partial .GRF files by individually selecting any combination of components, load collectors (for boundary condition faces or boundary data), and materials.
    6. Select whether to start the HyperXtrude solver after exporting the data files in the Launch solver field.
    7. Click Export.

    Hello,

yes I am following this procedure to export the model.

    Regarding the second 'save' option:
I receive an error msg saying 'unable to save file // please check file permissions'

I imported the geometry from an .igs-file, lacking any other format.
I ordered a .step-file of the same geometry...lets see if there's any change.

    Thanks so far,
    Felix

    Felix,

I suspect the file has read only permissions, can you change this and try?

also secondly see if you have full permissions in the location where you are saving.

    Hi,

in general I have full writing permissions in all locations. The file itself isn't write-protected as far as Windows can tell me by right-klicking on the file -> Properties and so on.

Is there a way to 'manipulate' the permissions of an IGES file, e.g. using SolidWorks or Inventor?

    Felix,

Firstly you should delete the settings files (also the hyperextrude folder in your working directory, same directory with the settings files) and try, see Forum » Modeling (Preprocessing) » HyperMesh » How to delete settings files

About the permissions, we need only to be concerned about the permissions of the .hm file.

After importing the CAD, you finish preparing the model and then export.

After importing the CAD you say you delete certain components and save = this gives the permissions denied error
does saving without any changes give any error? about the designation can you rename the components (right click rename)?

On export it says no such file or directory, this indicates the directory you are trying to export your file into does not exist, Try and browse to a new simpler location, like one of the directories of your harddrive like c:/ use a name for the file without any special characters as well.

    Hi,

the problem is now solved. I put the CAD-Data onto a network drive and exported it from there into Hmesh.
Afterwards saved the file to a simpler location D:\Programme\xxx.

Thanks for all the suggestions and hints!

    Kind Regards,
    Felix
