Interaction Problems
Hi,
I have some problems with assigning Elements to properties. I use 'assign' and click on elems. For selecting I first wanted to use 'by window'. Selecting the surface I atomaticly select elements of the backside, too. I was able to fix these problems on an even surface. Now I want to assign a round surface. I am not able to fix it in this way. I don't want to select each element with a single click. I think there must be a simplier way.
It seems to me that this is a simple problem, but it's a problem.
I have an other question:
I meshed my cad part with hypermesh. After assigning some geoms I recogniced that I was just able to see the upper surface. No elements of the interior are visible. Have I made a mistake or is this just for a better appearance and interacting with hypermesh?

Hi Lions_michel
For the first question there are many ways of selecting the elements, you can select elements by face for example (for this method select one of the elements and then select the by face option in the extended entity selection menu that appears when you click on the yellow elements button in any panel).
By Face method allows you to select entities (nodes, elements) by surface face. It finds entities that are attached to each other without crossing a feature line. The feature angle parameter in the Options panel’s mesh and geometry subpanels determine the feature lines. Attached, adjacent surfaces or elements are progressively selected when the angle between them is less than or equal to the specified feature angle.
by geoms may also help in this case, this allows you to select the entities which are associated to a surface or solid. When you select by geoms, HyperMesh displays a panel from which you may select one or more surfaces or solids. Once the geometric entities have been picked, click add to selection or subtract from selection. HyperMesh selects the entities which are associated to the selected geometry. You can associate entities to a surface in the Node Edit panel.
see HyperWorks Desktop Applications > HyperWorks Desktop Overview > Input Controls > Entity Selector:
Advanced Menu Selection in your hypermesh help pages.Secondly looks like you just have a surface mesh, there are 2d and 3d element types, so if you just have 2d elements created on surfaces (say using automesh) then there will be no elements in the interior.
also make sure all the components are in the display active state i.e. all elements are unmasked and not hidden, you can ensure this from the model browser (the list of components etc in the left of your hypermesh screen, click on the mesh symbol before the name of the components)0 -
Thank you for your help. I started new and made a new Tetra Volume mesh.
Thank you for your answer but I have to say that I still can not choose a simple surface at HyperMesh v11.0.I tried to work as you wrote to me. The result was the same problem as I had before. I selected an element, clicked on elemens and on by face. The choosen result was the same. I marked all elemnts from one side threw the solid to the backside. I think there must be a simple way just to select a surface and not a volume by marking elemnts of a surface.
(I already read the advises at the help menue but I couldn't sove the problem.)
Thank your for helping me0 -

Elements by face will work only for shell elements (2D) and so will selection by geoms > surfaces (these options, for solid elements, will be incorporated in the upcoming versions).
To select solid elements that are on a surface (adjacent to a surface) do the following
Go to tool > faces and extract faces (find faces) for the solid elements.
Select these face elements using the by face options (select a 2D element and then select by face)
Then use the by adjacent option, this way you have selected the solid elements closest to a surface/on a surface, for further operations.
