Apologies for my ignorance. I have been using Hypermesh to attempt to create individual element or nodal sets for some membrane elements. I am trying to give each of the sets an individual local coordinate system. I have tried to follow the instructions given for the older versions but havent figured it out in Hypermesh 11.0. Is there any chance you can give me a walkthrough or a link to a tutorial?
Thanks
Andrew

    Andrew,

Please feel free with your questions, the support forum is for all questions about HyperWorks , This was a question frequently asked by experienced engineers. icon_cool.gif

Assigning a coordinate system to elements only makes sense when it is the material coordinate system i.e. material orientation definition. In your case it will be node sets.

Once you have created a coordinate system and you have node sets, you can assign the coordinate system to your node sets,

    • Just go to mesh > assign > node analysis system.

    • click on nodes > by sets and select your node set.
    • Then click on set reference or set displacement as needed.

There are two types of system assignments to entities - as a reference system, or as a displacement system.
A reference system is used to define the geometric positions of entities. A displacement system is used to define the nodal degree of freedom coordinate system assigned to a node, used for instance while constraining the node. read about this in help
