Mistakes and questions regarding Tutorial - multidisciplinary design optimization platform for electric motors

Good Morning,

I am learning the Altair products for a while now.  My overall goal is to use HyperStudy, Flux and FluxMotor to calculate an optimal EM design based of an existing motor. I found a tutorial on Flux in the example tree under the section "co-simulation". It is called "multidisciplinary design optimization platform for electric motors". It seems to cover all my needs. The tutorial consists of multiple PDFs regarding the steps in FluxMotor and Flux to thermal and electromagnetic simulation.

Unfortunately, I encountered a problem while solving the tasks. In the PDF "Flux_ThermalAnalysis" (which is attached to this post), I have to add multiple points (p1 to p18) on slide 19 and 20. Afterwards, I have to add multiple lines with the help of the points that I just have added. Unfortunately, the some of those lines rely on points that I haven't added yet. The tutorial lists points p19,p20,p21 and p22 which haven't been added yet.

My questions:

  1. Is there a updated version of this PDF? It seems to me that I would not be able to continue with this tutorial.
  2. It seems to me that I have to add these points and lines to design the face regions to model the liner, airgap, coils and coil insulation of the motor. It seems like a lot of work to me. I would have thought that the exported Flux model from FluxMotor would already have these properties built into it. Do I have to sketch these points, lines and faces for each EM design that I would like to model?
  3. I have multiple questions regarding the entire workflow of all the PDFs. Can I just add them in this post or should I create a new post each time? It seems to me that staying on this post regarding the entire tutorial seems the best.

    Hello Melih,image

    Thanks for writing us.

The tutorial attached shows how to manually modify the geometry for thermal analysis in case you want to consider the real slot description and you have to start from an EM model. Page 21 shows the new points you just added that could be numbered in different way in Flux, so the difficulty could be due to a reference error we made. Points 19, 20, 21 and 22 at page 23, are the same underlined in the picture attached. I can help you in finishing the model, please share it here in case (zip the *.FLU folder).

For sure, the best workflow is to export the Flux model from FluxMotor and directly solve it.

If you have a doubts on the thermal workflow, it is probably better enter a new request in the support section, we could arrange a meeting to discuss on this topic; or create a new post with a different title here.

    Best regards,

    Letizia

    Hi Letizia,

Thank you for your answer. I have been able to continue your tutorial by looking at the picture and checking the points by selecting them in the preview. Thank you very much for your help. If I have any other questions, I will post them on the forum.
