Particle Explosion Edem
Hello community,
I have some problems with my simulation.
- I can see that there is a high amount of total failed particles in my factory. I have tried to increase the size of my particle factory , but I keep geeting a high amount of failed particles.
- There was an explosion on the simulation, while running it. I tried to lower the Fixed Time Step, to estabilize the simulation.
- The simulation is running really slow, even though the simulation time is 10 s, and selected the selective save to decrease the amount of data saved, also I have tried to increase the value on the target save interval to lower the simulation time.
My simulation is based on:
- Particles of diameters, 10 mm (50%), 12 mm (10%), 25 mm (10%), 50 mm (10%), 100mm (10%), 180 (10%)
- The particle shape form is based on a 4 multisphere particle, and the sizes above described where put in the size distribution tab.
PSD: I tried running the simulation only with one sphere particles of 12 mm, and the simulation time is really low compared to the simulation previously described.
Thank you very much for yout responses. I will apreciate all of your comments

Hi Pablo,
I feel particle size and shape look ok, the reason for the explosion and particle failure is large due to the following reason
1) Factory size
2) Feed rate
To Reduce the number of particles failed you can try the below options
1) Use dynamic factory (if you're using static Factory)
2) Increase the factory size if possible
3) Reduce the feed rate (It may increase simulation time but ok)
4) Induce higher velocity to the particles
Hope this helps.
Still, if you face the issue, you can share the file and let me take a look.
Thanks,
Prasad A

Thank you Prasad for your answer,
Here is the simulation deck, I will appreciate if you can take a look to it.
Kind Regards,

Hi Pablo,
I understand the reason now for the large number of particles to be failed.
1) Factory is created close to the geometry once certain number of particles created factory may not find a space to create hence particle will fail to create.
I would suggest always factory should be high enough such that it avoids the new particle generation
2) Factory should not be always 2D you can create with 3D as well. Infact 3D factory can create more particles as the volume of the factory is large.
Attached updated file consists of new 3D factory but used same old definition to create mass. it works fine at my side for small time verified.
Please go through and let me know if you have any further queries.
Thanks,
Prasad A
