Modeling of cables is necessary for structural analysis Units?

Hi,

currently iam doing structural analysis for electronic units. electronic component modeled with CG's. given cables weight is 400 kg.is it necessary to model cables in structure. if not, how should i compensate cables weight for structural analysis.

if they're not adding any stiffness to your model, then i'd say you could simplify them as mass elements or NSM (non-structural mass).

There are a few ways of creating these. What solver are you using?

 

In OptiStruct for example, you could create an RBE3 and a CONM2 (concentrated mass) element in the center node (at your CG).

If this is attached to a shell, you could add this mass/area in the PSHELL property, as NSM.

Or you can also add the card NSM in your model, and specify elements/nodes where it will be added some mass.
