PROPERTY OPTION DEFINITION (THICKNESS) IN MIDSURFACE COMMAND
Good morning friends,
When a solid is converted to shells by the Midsurfaces command, I want to know about the posibility that automatically Hyperworks defines the properties of the new shells created with the value of the thickness equal to the solid thickness.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Shell elements are limited to models which are really thin.
If the thickness is small (approximately 20 times less than the length), then you can go for shell elements by first extracting mid surface and giving thickness. Results will then match between shell and solid elements.
But, if the thickness is big, then you should go for solid elements. Shell elements will not give matching results in this case.

Hello Koushik,
Thanks for your response. I am analyzing a structure (beams and columns), and I transform to shell elements because the model is so big and my computer doesn't calculate... What I want to know if is possible to create automatically the property with the thickness of the profile when you transform the solid into a shell, because it is very useful when you have a model with a lot of beams, such as my situation: other softwares do that.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Kindly look at the attached video which shows how to automatically create different properties with different shell thickness in a model.
