Server & High performance PC

Hi - I am a small SME consultancy and would like to increase my model fidelity by adding additional computing resource. I would also like to use this as my company server. I am aware this is no HPC system, but we all have to start somewhere.

Would the following spec work for running coupled FE and CFD models? Any feedback on the CPU and GPU choice will be appreciated?

If not, what will be the best way to set this up as I am planning to take on staff and would like to have this as the company work horse (to start with) until this can be scaled further.

  1. 1 x Supermicro 4U GPU motherboard
  2. 2 x Intel Xeon Scalable 4215R, 8 cores, 3.2 GHz
  3. 12 x Supermicro Validated 16GB Memory Module = 192 GB
  4. 2 x Enterprise Class 480GB SATA SSD -MAIN DRIVE FOR OS & SOFTWARE
  5. 2 x Enterprise Class 6TB SATA Hard Drive - RAID 5
  6. 1 x NVIDIA RTX A6000 48GB GPU

Thank you!

Not exactly to answer your question , but what about Cloud solutions, such as Altair HyperWorks Unlimited? You can submit your jobs into a cloud server, with some options to premium GPUs. It could be an option, depending on how frequently you will need it. In case you run Altair products the licensing is already included.

    Hi Adriano,

Thank you for the recommendation, but I have discussed this already with Altair and as a consultant that work in various fields, I build and run loads of test models and do R&D on my own concepts. I will therefore run out of credits quickly and will not be cost effective in the long run.

Also, some of the FSI and CFD techniques are new to me so I run training models, which will also be costly.

What are your thoughts on the above?
