Merging two surfaces

Hi, I have a solid model which I imported in HyperMesh to do a linear static analysis. The solid is divided in two solids which I tried to merge but the SW says that they don't share any surface. I attach below the pictures of these two solids and their surfaces I thought were coincident. How can I make this two surfaces coincident in the way the two solids share the same surface?

I don't think HM has an option of merging duplicate surfaces.

I hope this method works. There could be alternative & easier methods.

You can trim the top surface (surface 2) of non-lug part with line belonging to the lug part. Ref to first picture, that line would be the one which belongs to the lug part but is lying at the centre.

The above can be accomplished using Surface Edit -> Trim with Lines Panel.

Then you can delete the surface which is overlapping. This would convert the non-lug solid in to a non-solid.

If you want to convert it back in to a solid, then you use solids->Bounded Surfaces option.

I think for the above to work, you should have all the edges (except for free edges) connected (green) or suppressed (dotted blue) on both parts.

If the model refuses to convert in to solid (should turn transparent green), then I would suggest deleting the surface 1 of lug part which is 'common' (as you see it now) to both objects.

So after the above operation, both 'common' surfaces should not be present. And again you can try converting it in to solid using bounded surfaces option.

    I think it should work.

Hopefully, the above write up was not confusing. I am not near a computer with HM at the moment.
