What is the criteria are used to determine weather the DEM part to say is steady state in CFD-DEM simulation?

I have a CFD-DEM simulation.
I have periodic boundary condition in both CFD and DEM parts.
I usually check the velocity profile (Velocity vs time) in the CFD part to see if it is in a steady state or not.
But about the DEM part, I checked the number of contacts and coordination number vs time. They are not constant and they are increasing. Does it mean that it is not a steady state yet?
Is there another parameter I can check?

Fatemeh

    Hi Fatemeh,

Velocity or average velocity is often used in DEM also depending on the case, looking at the system total energy is also similar.

What is the case, often measurables like mass flow rate can be used in a dynamic system.
