What is the difference between coupling force and total force in EDEM-Fluent coupling (in EDEM analyst)?
Hello everybody,
I should compare 2 different simulations (EDEM-Fluent coupling) simulation.
when I plot Coupling force versus time, 2 diagram behave totally different. the trend is same but the numbers are totally different.
and when I plot total force based on the time 2 diagram are approximately similar.
I need to know what is the difference between total force and coupling force exactly.
I insert:
lift, drag, virtual mass, gravity, and pressure gradient as an hydrodynamic force and HM-JKR as a contact force.
Can I say the only difference between these 2 forces in EDEM analyst graph is HM-JKR force?

Fatemeh

Hi,
I can't remember if EDEM's Total Force includes the coupling force (I don't think it does), but the coupling force is the combined lift and drag forces coming from Fluent. I would run a simple simulation to verify this, as well as check if the virtual mass force is included (I don't think it is). If you simulate a particle falling through fluid and not touching a boundary, you should be able to tell easily enough.
Cheers,
Richard

Thanks for your answer Richard.
It would be appreciated if you could check it.
I have deposition and HM-JKR is applied between particles and wall too.
What will be the difference in this situation?

FatemehAs I say, if you run a test simulation of a single particle free falling in fluid, with and without the virtual mass enabled, it should be a simple matter of checking the Total Force and Coupling Force values in EDEM.
If you want to go a step further you could output the values calculated in Fluent too.
