Polar array system/assembly

Hi,

I need help modeling polar array (rotational symmetry) using system/assembly. When instancing the sub-systems they stay at their original position and orientation. There is an option System translation, but no rotation. The 4 sectors needs to be attached to central polygon as well as to adjacent sector. Is there a way to automatically align subsystems with attachments?

Hello Ivan - We don't have a direct method of rotating systems or entities as of now. But here is what you can do.

    1. You can use 'Create Points Using Coordinates' to create points by using the Cylindrical option.
    2. Create a system for one sector, passing point or set of points as attachments and using it to create other entities such as bodies, joints within that sector inside the system
    3. Export the system
    4. Repeatedly instantiate the system using the import and passing points of other sector one by one to complete other sector.

I'll try to share an example soon.

    Regards

Here is an example of a radial engine. (It is partially done. The main idea was to demonstrate on creating an axisymetric model.)

The pptx explains broadly the steps to create such a model.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Praful,

thanks for your response. The described approach only seems to works for primitive graphic entities and is not applicable to the model I have shared (containing imported CAD graphics). As a workaround, on import CAD dialogue there is a Locator points option to later position, orient and scale CAD graphics in Location tab on the graphics panel. The main drawback with this approach is it can only locate one graphic at a time so it can not be used efficiently for systems/assemblies.

Hello Evan - I did not have the CADGraphic H3d that you referred in the model. So I did not focus on it. Would it be possible to share the same ? Also, if you can share the original CAD file, that too would be good.

Which version of HyperWorks are you using ?

    Regards

    Praful

    Hi,

sorry for the inconvenience. Please find the requested files attached bellow.

    I am using version 2017.2.

Is there a way to orient & position flexible bodies?

    Regards,

    Ivan
