Cutting an irregular body at the end of a step
Hi,
I have an irregular solid (Dental crown) STL file. I have imported it in hypermesh and meshed it using tetrahedron elements and have created an inp file to import in ABAQUS. In ABAQUS after carrying out the thermo-mechanical analysis I need to cut one section of the crown to see the stresses within the material. However, since I have tetrahedron elements, cutting the solid (done by elements removal) results in irregular surface in ABAQUS.
Can I define a cutting plane in HyperMesh (as a part of Step 2, following Step 1 of stress analysis) and redefine the mesh of that area? Is there any other way to tackle this issue?
Looking forward to the suggestions.

What if you created an interior surface where you wanted the cut before you meshed the tooth to make sure your mesh seeded (flat) against that surface?

Thank you so much Ben for the reply!!! I actually was able to resolve this issue by doing exactly what you mentioned. I created an interior surface, then generated 2D and 3D meshes. This ensured that there was a flat region. I defined an element set for that section of elements which are to be removed and then imported my model in ABAQUS. I was able to easily define the cutting zone using "Model Change" option there!!!

Nice. Glad you got it working
