Which approach for modelling wireless power transfer

Hello,

I´m trying to model the self inductance of two induction coils in wireless power transfer application. Additionally I want to find out the mutual inductance. That´s it, just the three parameters.

The frequency is 85kHz and a small gap between the primary and secondary coil. I tried reading through the documentation and found out, that you can do this computation with the Magneto-static analysis. Here you can compute this via flux/current or via the stored energy in the coils.

Can somebody confirm this, before I start to invest lots of time in the project. Otherwise if there´s another way, I´d be glad if somebody could help me and explain another method.

Thank you for your help!

    Hello,

To compute the self and mutual inductances between two coils for wireless power transfer application you're right you can use a magneto-static analysis. As you wants to compute also the mutual inductance I suggest you to use the method using the Flux.

The method with the energy consist in computing the energy in the domain with one coil supplied and to estimate the inductance using the formula E=1/2 L*I². We use it mainly to compute self inductance of one coil.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards.

Thank you for your quick answer! Do you think that the Steady State AC Magnetic 3D Application is also valid? I tried using it and do get very good results. Now I want to make sure, that the use is legit from the physically point of view.

In the Documentation I read that the application field is the same as in Magneto Static, so I guess it is okay?

Thank you again for you time and help!
