EDEM GPU card selection

Dear guys,

In the simulator, there are two GPU cards (1 and 2), i.e. Titan V, if I want to run two simulations, one simulation use card 1 and the other one use card 2,how should I do?

If I set the GPU number to 1 for both two simulations, it seems that both two simulations run slow than the case only one simulation runs.

PS: not in batch/command mode

Best wishes

Sunny

    Hi Sunny,

The GPU card selection can be done in different ways

    For example:

If you are solving the job in batch mode where you can define the GPU card order (i.e GPU card number).

in this case you have to define the GPU card number before submitting job.

If you are solving the job using GUI then you have a provision to choose the GPU card which you can choose.

to do this follow the steps

    1) Tools--> Options--> Simulator Engine-->CUDA/Open CL--> Select the GPU Card.

In the below picture there is only one GPU card , if you it has 2 , you can enable the necessary GPU card to solve.

    Thanks,

As Prasad mentions you have to run the GPU compatibility test and just select 1 of the two available cards:

Then start the simulation running with this card and open up a new instance of EDEM.

Go to the CUDA test again and de-select the first card and select the second and re-run the test.  Starting the second simulation then uses the second card.

GPUz https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ is a good tool to use to check the loading and status on each card.
