Exporting the layout files (.gbr or .dxf) to be opened by HFSS

Hi guys

I am designed a three layer transmitarray using Feko . I tried to export the layout files (.gbr or .dxf) files so that I can open the design in HFSS to check the three layers full wave behavior. The problem is that I could not succeed to do so even I unlinked the mesh line and mesh triangle edges and just kept the face of the copper. The Hfss does not recognize all the copper (there are couple of missed triangles)  !!. Could any one help please ?

thanks

    Hello designer,

Is it possible that you can attach the model files of what you are trying to export?

Hi, Yes sure , the .cfx file is attached. Is there any such proper way to export the layout file (.gbr or .dxf) so the HFSS can recognize all the geometry and the copper?

    thanks

    Hello @designer

First off, we need to identify if the problems you are experiencing are with the CADFEKO export. I had a quick look at the model that you attached and exported the mesh to Gerber and DXF formats using a recent version of CADFEKO. I viewed the exported Gerber file in a Gerber viewer and it seems to be complete (I only did a quick visual check, so I could have missed problems). I also viewed the .dxf file in a CAD viewer and imported it into CADFEKO and I could not identify any problems by doing a quick visual comparison. The .dfx file of course only contains the outline of the mesh (this is expected).

How did you evaluate the exported files to verify whether they contain the expected layouts? Can you attach the .gbr or .dxf files that you obtained from CADFEKO with screenshots that show the issues that you are observing?

I'm not familiar with HFSS and cannot comment on the best format to use for transferring your layouts between the two software packages. Does HFSS support other mesh imports like STL or NASTRAN?

    Kind regards

    Madelé

Thank you for your reply, I have attached the .gbr file  and .dxf as well.  When you export the mesh to Gerber of DXF ,  have you clicked on simulated mesh or  model mesh  choice?

    regards

have you clicked on simulated mesh or  model mesh  choice?

In the attached model the simulation meshes and model meshes are the same, so it does not matter which option is chosen.

I have attached the .gbr file

I have done another visual inspection and could not find differences between the attached Gerber file and the CADFEKO model. Have you used a Gerber viewer to see if the exported file contains the layout that you expect?

    Hi again

Thank you Mr MvdM. Sorry my bad if I did not clear it. The assignment is to convert the mesh file to geometry file so it can be fabricated. Inn other word CADFeko does not let me to export the geometry file? because when I try to choose export--> geometry--- the list is shaded (not active) to choose for example parasolid (*.xt)  geometry to export.

The model only contains model mesh parts. It does not contain any geometry. Meshes cannot be exported to geometry formats (like Parasolid).

I see, Can I full the imported mesh with conductor plate  (PEC)? in other word is it enough to fo to every mesh triangle and change the face properties to conductor?

    Hi @designer,

I don't see a problem here. When you select all your mesh parts in CADFEKO and then go to Export -> Mesh -> Gerber mesh, the exported *.gbr file seems to be correct:
