Particles explosion after creating material block in EDEM
Hi all,
I am using the function of dynamic block creation. The block started explosion when the it tend to create the second block, because there are particles inside the block (as shown in the figure) before the creation.
Is there any way to remove the particles inside the block before the dynamic block creation? Or other way to prevent the explosion?

BTW, I tried the particle removal API(3_6_0), but my current version of EDEM is old. How can I update the software?

Hi Chander,
With the block factory it always creates the new block in the position specified regardless if there are existing particles there, so the only way to manage this is to set it up so that the existing particles move out the way.
Regarding the software version you can download the latest version from the Marketplace but you should contact your account manager if you need an updated license.

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for the answer. Could you tell me how move out the existing particles in the factory region to avoid the explosion?

Hi Stephen,
Could you tell me how to remove the particles inside the factory? Do I need to programme with myself? Or use any current API?

Hi Chandler,
The best way is to setup the simulation so that the particles move out the factory area, for example by setting an initial velocity to the particles when they get created. It could also be removed via the API, for example https://community.altair.com/community/en/edem-api-contact-model-example-removing-particles?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0122028

Thanks Stephen,
In my case, the particles were out of the block first, but they entered the block after collision with a moving geometry again. Therefore I think the second solution may be suitable for me. But I can not use the API in the link you sent, because my EDEM version is 2022. Is there an old version of the API? Or I have to update the version of the software in order to use it?
