Modelling two components entering in contact
Hi everyone,
I am trying to get the pressures/Von Mises Stresses on a plate on which an object lays (a sphere in this case, I have created an easier example than my real model). Here is what I have created in Hypermesh:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
I attached the .hm file in this post. The elements of the sphere are shell trias, those of the plate are 3D quads.
As my real model is far more complicated, the best solution is to fix the upper points of my object, and make the plate moves to the object. The force on the plate represents the weight of the sphere (principle of reciprocal actions). The plate is allowed to move in the Z-direction only. The idea is that the plate will finally get in contact with the sphere. In fact, I am not interested in what happens when the contact begins, I just want the values of pressure et stresses on the plate once the contact is established and the equilibrium is reached.
In brief, when I run this model with OptiStruct, the plate penetrates the sphere, and no stresses appear on the plate :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
I would be glad if someone could help me solve these issues of components penetrating each others, or of the 'non-existing' stresses.
Any help or idea would be welcome /emoticons/default_smile.png' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' title=':)' width='20' />
Thanks,
Lisa.

Contact force is calculated based on penetration so i think penetration is must.
For stress result, pls try increasing the force on plate.

Hey Lisa,
I saw your model. I think you are running a static linear simulation.
I recommend to use Non Linear Static Simulation. And create a new card (NLPARAM) in order to configurate Newton-Raphson scheme for NL anaysis.
In contact prop, I would recommend to use S2S discretization.
Tell me if you succeed to get what you need (results)
Cheers,

Hey,
Thanks for your answers !
I cannot find 'NLPARAM'. Do you mean 'NLPARM' ?
Best regards,
Lisa
